RANKING NFL OFFENSIVE LINES GOING INTO THE 2024 SEASON
Offensive line is one of the most crucial parts to a team. it keeps your biggest investment in a QB, safe. It keeps the running game strong, taking pressure off the QB. A bad offensive line can make what should be a really good team, look bad and vice versa. Let's look at all offensive lines and some of the depth had for each team.
- New Orleans Saints (LT "Taliese Fuaga," LG Lucas Patrick, C Erick McCoy, RG Cesar Ruiz, RT Trevor Penning)
The Saints O-Line is missing their star RT Ryan Ramczyk for the season. This hurt their ranking tremendously. I really like their first-round pick, Taliese Fuaga out of Oregon State. He and Ramczyk will make one of the best tackle duos in the league for years to come. Penning was benched last year. Ruiz has not played well either. The Saints have a lot to work on, but at least are making the effort to rebuild.
- Tennessee Titans (LT "JC Latham," LG Peter Skoronski, C Lloyd Cushenberry III, RG Dillon Radunz, RT Nicolas Petit-Frere)
The Titans have used their pair of first round picks on the left side of their O-Line the last two years. Skoronski seemed to play okay last season but may see greater improvement with year two incoming. Latham felt like a bit of a reach considering the Titans position in the draft this year. He has tremendous size and athleticism just lacking some of the footwork. Similar to Skoronski, it may take a year for him to settle into his role. The Titans picked up Cushenberry out of free agency after his breakout season. If the two draft picks work out, their left side will be tremendous. Their next plan of action should be to attack the right side of the line. Both Radunz and Nicolas have done nothing of note.
- Washington Commanders (LT "Brandon Coleman," LG Nick Allegretti, C Tyler Biadasz, RG Sam Cosmi, RT Andrew Wylie)
The Commanders went out and got a great center in Biadasz. He will likely be there for the rest of his career. Cosmi was one of the bright spots last year. He was a top 5 RG. Allegretti was a backup just last year. Wylie played okay but will need to take a big step this season before I feel comfortable putting this unit higher. Coleman, a 3rd round pick has impressed, but I will need to see it on the field during a game that matters.
- Arizona Cardinals (LT Paris Johnson Jr., LG Evan Brown, C Hjalte Froholdt, RG Will Hernandez, RT Jonah Williams)
Most of the players on this line are high risk, high reward players. Johnson, who did not play great last season, is expected to take the next step and has reportedly looked promising in camp. Hernandez seemed to have gotten back on track as an elite guard. Williams, when playing is an elite lineman as well. His problem is his health. He deals with injuries every year. Brown had a career year with the Seahawks last year. This is his 6th team in 5 years. and his best play was when he played center, rather than guard. I expect he struggles.
- New England Patriots (LT Vederian Lowe, LG Sidy Sow, C David Andrews, RG Mike Onwenu, RT Chukwuma Okorafor)
Onwenu is the star of this offensive line. He is one of the best right tackles in the league. Okorafor was benched in Pittsburgh last season. He has had a few promising seasons, and that is why New England is betting on his upside. Sow played poor his rookie season. Lowe only played 6 full games last year and did not look very impressive during them.
- New York Giants (LT Andrew Thomas, LG Jon Runyan, C John Michael Schmitz Jr., RG Greg Van Roten, RT Jermaine Eluemunor)
The Giants made a great late preseason move picking up Van Roten off of the free agent market. Van Roten though aging can maybe provide a nice veteran perspective for the rest of the line. Doing this also allowed them to move Eluemunor over to tackle, which is where he has produced his best numbers. Schmitz and Thomas have both been disappointing. despite their draft positions. Runyan will try and carry the weight of that left side on his shoulders.
- Seattle Seahawks (LT Charles Cross, LG Laken Tomlinson, C Connor Williams, RG Anthony Bradford, RT Abraham Lucas)
Cross has looked promising. He has battled some injuries but plays well when on the field. Williams, a late preseason pick up can hold his own. Tomlinson is very up and down. He has never showed consistency throughout his tenure, and there has been more bad than good seasons. Bradford had a disappointing rookie season last year. Lucas has dealt with a knee injury all of camp and preseason. If he plays, he and Cross always make a fine duo.
- Jacksonville Jaguars (LT Cam Robinson, LG Ezra Cleveland, C Mitch Morse, RG Brandon Scherff, RT Anton Harrison)
Robinson and Cleveland are very inconsistent in their play. They also struggle with injuries more often than I like. Morse will be a fantastic edition to the line. He is one of the better centers in the entire league. Scherff has played really good ball during his time in Jacksonville. I have no reason to expect a change in his playing. Harrison had a great rookie season. The right side of the ball should be taken care of. The Jags will just have to keep their fingers crossed on the left side.
- Carolina Panthers (LT Iken Ekwonu, LG Damien Lewis, C Austin Corbett, RG Robert Hunt, RT Taylor Moton)
Hate to start on a negative, but how Corbett is still a starter in the league is beyond me. He has had one good season in his 6 years in the league. He has switched spots on the line more than just about anyone. This will be his first year as center, and I have no plans of believing his performance will change. Ekwonu saw a small decrease in production last year. Hopefully he can improve this year. Lewis has been solid, but still needs some polishing. Hunt was disappointing in Miami, but still has some upside, the Panthers are betting on. Moton has had an up and down career with the Panthers but has played good enough to keep his position.
- Las Vegas Raiders (LT Kolton Miller, LG Cody Whitehair, C Andre James, RG Dylan Parham, RT Thayer Munford)
Miller has been the anchor for the Raiders Oline the last few years. James was a top 10 center last season. Whitehair has been consistently decent with the Bears the last few years. Munford and Parham saw some improvement last season, but still has a ways to go before being considered great.
- Miami Dolphins (LT Terron Armstead, LG Robert Jones, C Aaron Brewer, RG Liam Eichenberg, RT Austin Jackson)
Armstead was elite for a period of time. He has had a great two years with the Dolphins so far. The Dolphins have tried moving Jones around the line to no success so far. Brewer has been a fine piece as well, but still needs to show improvement. Eichenberg has been disappointing to say the least. Jackson had a career year last season and hopes to build off that.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LT Tristan Wirfs, LG Ben Bredeson, C "Graham Barton," RG Cody Mauch, RT Luke Goedeke)
Wirfs, a top 5 tackle in the league has been a perfect fit in the LT position. Goedeke also finished in the top 30 of tackles. Mauch had a solid rookie year. Bredeson has played very poorly thus far, and likely will not keep his starting position very long. Then there is Barton. Starting a rookie at center may cause a few hiccups at first, but he can hopefully transition fast.
- San Fransisco 49ers (LT Trent Williams, LG Aaron Banks, C Jake Brendel, RG "Dominick Puni," RT Colton McKivitz)
Williams is the best LT in the league. Dominick Puni, the 3rd round pick from Kansas is said to be possibly the most impressive rookie linemen in camp and preseason. HE should help try and hold down the right side of the ball. Banks has been okay, but not much more than that. McKivitz and Brendel both had career years last year but needs to show consistency.
- Houston Texans (LT Laremy Tunsil, LG Kenyon Green, C Juice Scruggs, RG Shaq Mason, RT Tytus Howard)
Injuries got the Texans OL bad last season. Tunsil and Mason are two proven veteran starters. Howard and Green both faced injuries and have not played up to standards. Scruggs faced injuries and will hopefully have a full season to show what he can do.
- Cincinnati Bengals (LT Orlando Brown Jr., LG Cordell Volson, C Ted Karras, RG Alex Cappa, RT "Amarius Mims")
Orlando played very poorly last season leading to his move in teams. The Bengals hope to bring out his elite form that was missing last season. Mims, the first-round pick from Georgia hopes to bolster the other side of the line. Volson and Cappa have both been solid pieces on the line, earning their spots. Karras has been hot and cold but has been slightly more consistent since his move to Cincy in 2022.
- Denver Broncos (LT Garrett Bolles, LG Ben Powers, C Luke Wattenberg, RG Quinn Meinerz, RT Mike McGlinchey)
Meinerz was a top 3 guard last year. McGlinchey still does a solid job at LT, as does Bolles at RT. Powers has improved since his move to Denver, but still needs some work. The loss of Cushenberry at center will likely hurt the production of the team. Wattenberg has only started one game in his first two seasons, so we will have to watch him as if he was a rookie.
- Los Angeles Rams (LT Joseph Noteboom, LG Jonah Jackson, C Steve Avila, RG Kevin Dotson, RT Rob Havenstein)
Dotson was the second-best guard last season earning himself a new contract. Jackson who played okay in Detroit, has a true chance for a breakout season. Havenstein, a seasoned vet for the Rams has been one of the more underrated RTs for the better part of a decade. Avila even played good last season. The hope is he improves and plays great. Finally, Noteboom. Noteboom has played very poorly in his six seasons with the Rams. I am surprised he is still starting or even on the team at this point.
- Chicago Bears (LT Braxton Jones, LG Teven Jenkins, C Coleman Shelton, RG Nate Davis, RT Darnell Wright)
Jones and Wright have both played tremendously. Jenkins and Davis have both been underwhelming. Shelton had a career year last year. The Bears hope he can build off that.
- Minnesota Vikings (LT Christian Darrisaw, LG Blake Brandel, C Garrett Bradbury, RG Ed Ingram, RT Brian O'Neill)
Darrisaw and O'Neill had down years compared to 2022, but they still impressed in certain aspects. Bradbury and Ingram are okay, but certainly not homerun hitters. Brandell is an unknown only starting 5 games in 3 years.
- Baltimore Ravens (LT Ronnie Stanley, LG Andrew Vorhees, C Tyler Linderbaum, RG Daniel Faalele, RT Roger "Rosengarten")
Stanley has certainly not played up to his 2019 all-pro year. That being said he has not played a full season since. Linderbaum is one of the better centers in the league. Vorhees, Faalele, and rookie Rosengarten have all not really started in the league. I am betting on the chance they all can play well enough to keep Lamar protected and Henry running through them.
- Dallas Cowboys (LT "Tyler Guyton," LG Tyler Smith, C Brock Hoffman, RG Zack Martin, RT Terence Steele)
Guyton has been talked about as one of the two best rookie linemen in the preseason. He is already being viewed as a steal in the draft. Martin is and has been an elite guard for some time now. Smith has also played elite ball over his two seasons in the league. Earning all-pro status last year. Steele had a fine year last year but hopes to return to his 2021-2022 form. Hoffman has some big shoes to fill after the Cowboys let Biadasz walk in free agency. He has only started two games in his two seasons.
- Pittsburgh Steelers (LT Broderick Jones, LG Isaac Seumalo, C "Zach Frazier," RG James Daniels, RT "Troy Fautanu")
Seumalo and Daniels both played very good last year. I love Fautanu. It is being reported that he may get to sit and learn from veteran Dan Moore Jr. Either way, I love the investment. You also have second year Broderick Jones, who played well. He should play better after getting a few starts under his belt and another offseason. A rookie at center can cause some problems getting adjusted, especially between Wilson and Fields.
- Buffalo Bills (LT Dion Dawkins, LG David Edwards, C Connor McGovern, RG O'Cyrus Torrence, RT Spencer Brown)
Both tackle positions are more than taken care of with Dawkins and Brown. Edwards looked promising in his rather limited play. Mitch Morse leaving may just leave a hole in the middle of the line. McGovern is fine, but far from elite. Torrence had a decent rookie year, and if he shows improvement, may just put this line even higher on the list.
- Green Bay Packers (LT Rasheed Walker, LG Elgton Jenkins, C Josh Myers, RG "Jordan Morgan," RT Zach Tom)
Walker played very well last season in his limited starts. Jenkins has solidified himself on the Packers line and will likely be there for years to come. Myers has even played very well in his full last two seasons. Even showing his ability to switch positions on the line. Tom had a good first full year, last year. The only question is with rookie, Jordan Morgan. The Packers hope he can play well, and with that they would very possibly be moved into the top 5.
- Los Angeles Chargers (LT Rashawn Slater, LG Zion Johnson, C Bradley Bozeman, RG Trey Pipkins III, RT "Joe Alt")
Joe Alt, the first lineman off the board in this year's draft feels really close to a sure thing in the league. He and Slater maybe a top 5 duo in the league come next year. Bozeman should do fine filling in for retiree, Corey Linsley. Pipkins has slowly become more consistent over the past couple of seasons. While Johnson took a step back from what we saw his rookie year. The Chargers hope he can take that next step.
- New York Jets (LT Tyron Smith, LG John Simpson, C Joe Tippmann, RG Alijah Vera-Tucker, RT Morgan Moses)
Smith and Moses were both top 10 tackles last year. The Jets bringing both in prove they knew of the line problem last season and put their money where their mouth was. Vera-Tucker, when healthy is one of the better guards in the league. John Simpson had a "one year wonder" kind of year with the Ravens. The Jets hope he makes that his norm. Tippmann is the only concern on the line, but as long as he gets the ball off, he should have plenty of help with blocking.
- Kansas City Chiefs (LT "Kingsley Suamataia," LG Joe Thuney, C Creed Humphrey, RG Trey Smith, RT Jawaan Taylor)
Thuney is a top 15 guard in the league. Humphrey is the best center in the league. Smith is a top 10 guard in the league. Taylor had a disappointing season last year but has the potential to be one of the better tackles in the league if he returns to form. All of these men have top 10 potential at their positions. The only thing holding this line back is a rookie LT. Kingsley will have a good chance to succeed but will be seen as an easy target for most teams. We will see if he can hold his own versus some of the best.
- Atlanta Falcons (LT Jake Matthews, LG Matthew Bergeron, C Drew Dalman, RG Chris Lindstrom, RT Kaleb McGary)
Lindstrom is the best guard in the league for two years in a row. Dalman took tremendous strides last season establishing himself as the center. McGary and Matthews both played very well. Bergeron is in need of improvement. He needs to take that next step to fully solidify this group. The Falcons returned all of these men, which should help create unity and consistency in play. Kirk Cousins could go off. This might be his best line he has ever played behind.
- Cleveland Browns (LT Jedrick Wills Jr., LG Joel Bitonio, C Ethan Pocic, RG Wyatt Teller, RT Jack Conklin)
This line has been unable to stay healthy the last few years. Bitonio, Teller, and Conklin are all tremendous veteran starters. Pocic is still trying to get his feet under him and start to be more consistent. Wills has been underwhelming. He faced some injuries, but I would not be surprised if they try and transition Conklin to LT and make Dawand Hand a starter at RT. This line needs depth, and they do have it in case of poor play or more injuries.
- Indianapolis Colts (LT Bernhard Raimann, LG Quenton Nelson, C Ryan Kelly, RG Will Fries, RT Braden Smith)
Raimann and Smith are both top 10 at their positions. Kelly is a top 5 center. Nelson is always an all-pro caliber player. Fries had a career year last year, but still needs to make some improvements this season to keep his spot on the line secure.
- Philadelphia Eagles (LT Jordan Mailata, LG Landon Dickerson, C Cam Jurgens, RG Mekhi Becton, RT Lane Johnson)
Mailata, Dickerson, and Johnson are all elite veterans. Becton was picked up from the Jets in the offseason. He has had trouble staying healthy but there is certainly some upside to his game when on the field. Jurgens only started 11 games last season. He played fine, but the hope is moving him to center can make his transition easier.
- Detroit Lions (LT Taylor Decker, LG Graham Glasgow, C Frank Ragnow, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Penei Sewell)
Sewell was the best offensive lineman in the league last season. Ragnow was the best center in the league last year. Zeitler and Glasgow were top 15 guards last season. Decker is an elite left tackle. This line is stacked and should be the best as long as they all stay healthy.
